Face-to-face semestrial courses

GOALS

Acquisition and development of skills in French as a foreign language (from level A1 to level C2), in written comprehension and production, oral comprehension and production and French and Francophone culture in an action-oriented and intercultural perspective in order to prepare for a DUEF (university diploma in French studies).

METHODOLOGY USED

The teaching is based (depending on the level) on textbooks (communicative and action-oriented approach) and/or on authentic oral and written documents.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Description

Lessons on the acquisition of written skills (written comprehension and production) and oral skills (oral comprehension and production), plus more specific lessons on grammar and phonetics. Phonetics and listening comprehension are taught in a phonetics laboratory and a multimedia laboratory.

The lessons are aligned with the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

To determine your level, a placement test is organised on arrival (only for people who do not hold a DELF or DALF diploma or from an ADCUEFE centre).

During your first course, we will give you the textbooks corresponding to your level.

Compulsory electives

From level B1 onwards, optional courses are offered to acquire either disciplinary knowledge (French for economic and social life, French for science, etc.) or cultural skills (French literature, French language literature, history of music, etc.). You must choose 2 compulsory courses.

Cultural activities

The teaching staff offers you excursions during the courses.

IEFE offers you one excursion per semester. You can choose between Nîmes and the Pont du Gard, Carcassonne and the Châteaux de Lastours, Perpignan and Collioure, the Baux de Provence and the Salins du Midi, Arles and the Camargue Regional Nature Park, la Couvertoirade, the Millau Viaduct and the Roquefort Caves...

CENTRE DE DOCUMENTATION PEDAGOGIQUE ET SCIENTIFIQUE (CDPS)

RENOUVIER BUILDING

A pedagogical and scientific documentation centre dedicated to the IEFE provides you with numerous works listed and classified by theme according to criteria useful to an international public: FLE (French as a Foreign Language) methods, grammar manuals, easy reading books, novels...

The press area also offers daily, weekly and monthly newspapers as well as selected articles for your presentations.

The documentation centre is a place where you can study in peace and quiet.

WELCOME MEETING

A welcome meeting is organised at the beginning of each school year for new students with the IEFE's Pedagogical Direction and several key actors of the university (IEFE's course operation (exams, holiday dates, choice of options...), SAIEC, Associative Life, Sports Life...) to explain the course to the students and thus meet their expectations.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

The assessment is made up of your continuous assessment marks (homework and exams marked during the semester) and your marks in the final exam.

If you pass, you will obtain a university diploma, the "Diplôme Universitaire d'Études Françaises" (DUEF), aligned with the 6 levels of the CEFR.

You will be awarded a number of distinctions if you obtain the diploma:

Mention Passable: for a final mark of at least 10/20 and less than 12/20

Mention Assez Bien: for a final mark at least equal to 12/20 and less than 14/20

Mention Bien: for a final mark at least equal to 14/20 and less than 16/20

Mention Très Bien: for a final mark at least equal to 16/20

As part of international partnerships, the DUEF is recognised for 30 ECTS credits per semester.

From a DUEF B2 level onwards, students may enrol in Paul-Valéry University courses.
