Welcoming students in exile at the IEFE

The University Paul Valéry Montpellier 3, supported by the Occitanie Region and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and more recently by the "Welcome to France – Bienvenue en France" operation, exonerates each year, since 2016, about sixty students in exile, asylum seekers, refugees, and students under subsidiary protection for DUEFs, University Diplomas in French Studies, which consists of intensive French language and culture courses followed at the IEFE ( University Institute for the Teaching of French as a Foreign Language). This system allows exile students with a secondary school diploma to improve their language skills and become familiar with French culture in order to obtain the B2 level required to enrol in a French university and then resume their university studies.

The "PASSERELLE University Diploma - Students in Exile" is available at the IEFE since September 2019 and is part of the solidarity scheme set up at the UPVM. This intensive linguistic and cultural training in French, from A1 to C1 levels, with dedicated support and orientation activities, constitutes a bridge to the French university and enables any student who has been forced to interrupt his or her studies to prepare for a return to higher education in France.

This DU, intended for refugee students or students under subsidiary protection under the age of 28, allows the attribution of CROUS scholarships.

These schemes are co-financed by the Occitanie Region, the AUF and Bienvenue en France. They allow the beneficiaries to continue their studies interrupted by their exile with intensive linguistic and cultural learning and thus a better integration into French society.
